Therapeutic / Remedial Massage By working with the soft tissues in your body, Therapeutic Massage is used to reduce your tension and pain; a whole body approach is used and discomfort is traced back to the original cause. In Therapeutic Massage, specialised techniques are used to support and speed up the body's own repair mechanisms. Massage is applied directly to the skin usually with an oil lubricant and passive stretching moves may also be used with excellent results.
Relaxation Massage If used as part of a regular program Relaxation massage reduces stress, both emotional and physical. Oxygen flow is increased in the blood and releases toxins from the muscles. Other benefits include shortening recovery time from muscular strain, increased circulation, stretching of ligaments and tendons, skin stimulation and soothing of the nervous system.
Deep Tissue Massage Deep Tissue massage strokes are used to respond to various tissues while breath and movement techniques are employed to release muscular congestion. It also helps to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating efficiently and is both corrective and therapeutic. Deep Tissue Massage is of great benefit for physical problems, including sports injuries and chronic pain also because it works very deeply, emotional issues can also be addressed when these issues have been stored in the body.
Sports Massage Sports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, ligaments and tendons. Regardless of your experiences in sport or exercise whether you exercise socially or compete to an international level - sports massage may have something to offer you. After any workout there is a production of lactic acid, which, if not taken care of, can result in strong muscles spasms and cramps. A Sports Massage will disperse this lactic acid, increase blood flow and nourishment to the muscle tissues, improve flexibility at the joints (connective tissues), and provide an overall sense of relaxation as well as invigoration, as the muscles feel refreshed.
Trigger Point Therapy Trigger points are manifested as small contraction knots in the muscles, that control the state of contraction, active ones may cause muscle spasm and referred pain. Treatment consists of physical therapy, manipulation and stretching. A firm digital pressure is applied by the practitioner who locates the specific points causing pain and restricted movement. These points may often be located in places different to where the client actually feels the pain.
Myofascial Release All the structures in the body are surrounded, protected and supported by superficial and middle layers of connective tissue, otherwise known as fascia. Fascia is a continuous elastic sheath that provides structural support for the skeleton and soft tissues (muscles, tendons, organs, etc.)...Scarring or injury to the fascia can cause pain and restrict motion. Myofascial release uses applied stretches to break down fascial adhesions and realign it to its proper orientation.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a variation
on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat basalt stones are placed on key
points or chakras on the body. The massage therapist also holds the stones and
uses them to massage the body. The heat of the stones
warm and relax the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply
deeper pressure, if desired. The soothing warmth of the hot stones improves
circulation and calms the nervous system. Placement stones are put on energy
points/chakras of the body to rebalance the body and mind and clear blocked
energy.
The use of hot stones for
healing dates back to ancient times, when Native Americans used it for healing.

Meet
Viv the owner of Revival Massage Therapy. Viv qualified as a therapist
in 2008, and now holds a certificate in relaxation massage and a diploma
in therapeutic massage. It’s fair to say Viv loves her job and the
challenges that come with it. Every client is different and brings with
them a new set of challenges, which basically means the job never gets
boring!
Viv’s interests lie in managing acute & chronic pain as well as
well as assisting with maintenance and general wellness massage. Viv
also loves assisting active people reach their sports goals with regular
sports massage.
When asked what she enjoys the most, Viv replied;
“I enjoy spending time with my clients and hearing about their pain,
their stress and how they spend their time, and then working with their
bodies & educating them to correct imbalances in their muscles, and
relieve tension and trigger points that have been causing a problem.
To see a client come back the following week in considerably less
pain than the week before is so great, and when that client has been
coming for a while and they are able to make their sessions monthly or 6
weekly without living their life in pain, its all worth it.”
Viv’s kept pretty busy these days, running around after her young son
Luca, spending time with her partner Simon and of course managing a
successful massage therapy practice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
